Default Work at Home

Daycare is very expensive. Leaving the house to work can cost more than you make. I decided to work at home. I found a position that appears to be relatively easy that I can do from home. Today was my first day. I had to make a few phone calls. I was on the phone with someone and Meg decided to run up and scream into the phone "I don't have any underwear". Lovely, the guy understood and actually laughed. I was mortified though. I was so professional up until that point.

How do you keep your children occupied while you work from home? I think tomorrow I'm going to make all my calls in the morning when they are sluggish and not as loud. Then I'm going to tell them to play in the bedroom until mommy comes and gets them. Meg is the worst. She won't be quiet for anything. I was hoping that she would play quietly but she won't. As soon as Sebastian walked through the door he got Colby going, then turned around and acted like he didn't do anything wrong.

If anyone has any ideas let me know. This is definitely going to be a learning experience. I'm not giving an opportunity to work at home up so they are going to have to adjust!

Yes it takes some time to adjust but soon you will have it figured out. Maybe you could have something special for them to do that they don't really need you for but so special that they only can do it while you are working on the phone. Good luck.

Most people I know that work from home still have daycare. Or they have someone like Grandma come over so they can work undisturbed. Or, they wait till Dad gets home and he takes over the childcare part.

I can't imagine how you could continually work from home with small children without someone to keep them busy and away from you.

That is really funny actually and I would have laughed too if it was me...
I work nights that is the only way I avoid daycare...
I would try to do most your work early morning, naptime, and right after they go to bed if you have to do stuff online...

When i was a daycare provider, I had several moms who worked at home. But the kids were with me - not full time, but maybe for two or three full days or 5 mornings, or 3 mornings.

Among the types of work the moms did were publishing, teaching, musician, artist - and you really need concentrated kid free time to do those well on a consistent basis.

I completely sympathize. I'm a new mother of a five month old and for the life of me I try (and stumble) to somehow balance working from home and tending to his every wake and need. I have never been so exhausted in my life! (I work in the design field, and as mcmama said, any of the artistic vocations thrive on concentration...)

I can only imagine how you must feel as a mother of four! Four times the glory and four times the noise... oh boy! All I can offer you is good luck wishes for moments of peace and quiet, which I'm sure are more than well deserved and long overdue!

Thumbs up new mum too!

hi, my baby's little too! baby christina's only about 2 months! and i completely know where you are coming from, it's really not easy! but dont give up ! We can do it!! with more than a little perserverence !

I'm learning a lot too, and it's made me a better person. now, i try to find little moments for myself. it's a constant challenge but i needed it, and i promise myself to give some "me" time !

I've found slow but constant income, but it's all worth it! I'm saving up with the money I'm earning now, so that some day i can afford to get a medical coding or transcriptionist certificate...

dont give up !
