Unhappy worried about medications..

so like I mentioned before I have really bad asthma. I am currently on a controller inhaled steriod and then a rescue inhaler. I ran out so I have been using my nebulizer until tomorrow when I can get my meds refilled. I was googling asthma meds this morning when I was doing my breathing treatment and all the meds I am on are class C drugs, and the albuterol even caused cleft palate in mice. It didn't in any other animal, but that scares me. My symbicort (inhaled steroid) didnt say what the birth defects were but it said that it could cause them. My doc didnt tell me anything about this or I would have switched to something safer a long time ago! i am scared to death that my baby will have deformities because I was taking these meds during my first trimester.
At the same time I know I wouldnt be able to survive without the meds. Its a double edged sword. Any advice?

I would call the dr and tell them you want something safer for both of you. When you go for your scan i would have them check really good for deformities

Talk to your Dr. Not to scare you, but almost all birth defects and abnormalties are formed in the first tri. That is when all the vital organs and systems are formed. By the 2nd tri, everything is just about there, it is just developing from here on out. If you need them to survive, then you need them, but talk to your DR so you're more informed.

Sometimes with Class C meds they will give them to you if the benefit outweights the risks. You are also on three other Class C medications unless they have recently switched Zofran (could be safer now) But Phenergan Reglan and Zofran are all meds that have never been tested on pregnant humans therefore they are automatically given a class C

According to safefetus.net Zofran, Reglan are both class B drugs. I'd ask your doctor if there are safer options for baby and you. But sadly IF you need these drugs to treat your asthma- it's a benefits vs risk type of scenerio like Kristin mentioned.
Stay positive.

Okay I did extensive research, and the risk of birth defects were mainly seen in mice but no other animal, and the safety was pretty well acknowledged for the meds I take. So I was pretty comforted after doing my research
and it is a "benefits outweigh the risk" thing. I have to do what I have to do. Not being able to breathe is way worse for baby than any hypothetical chance of birth defects... and my asthma is not controlled on any other medications. I have tried them all.
