Default Your opinions please. . .

My dd and her friend have decided to participate in the Take a Stand program. We asked to sell at one of the park concerts and we were told it would set a bad precedent. The 'bad precedent' issue was not defined. . . I'm not sure what the precedent is. In any case, if it were you, if you saw your child seeking to make a positive contribution on her own initiative, what would you do? I am currently considering calling the news or having hte girls write letters to the mayor to protest the decision.

I would encourage it and praise her, BUT I also would look more in to this "bad precedent issue" find out everything you can. If you still don’t feel comfortable with her doing it let her know and make sure you tell her why then tell her that there are other ways to help and encourage her, point her in the right way but let her choose what she wants to do.
Here are just a few things that she can do
There is a site that I love and me and my kids help out with, it’s call Bring me Hope http://www.bringmehope.org/ you and your child can help send an orphan to camp (this means the world to these kids)
Collect non-perishable foods, clothes, toys and then donate then to homeless shelters.
Help out an elderly neighbor
Help out an orphanage maybe donate some toys that she and her siblings don’t play with anymore (people don’t realize how much one toy can men to an orphan)
Help out victims of a disaster
Good luck and give her a huge hug for me

Oh no. . .I want her to do it. . .I think they should be allowed to do it. . .it's the parks saying we can't.

The 'bad precedent' issue is that they are scared that the community will start to get involved in their things. . .their community things.

I think it's wonderful what your dd and her friend want to do. I would definitely have the children write, or you could even call the news channel in your area. You could write a letter to the editor of your local paper, that would sure get local officals attention! I can't believe they won't allow the kids to do something like this.
What a wonderful cause!

Sounds like a great idea!

Which ever official told you "no" needs to further discuss the rules with you.

Are street vendors required to have a license or a permit?

Sometimes yes but we would fall under them in this situation.
